Admission to the school

As we have already mentioned, our website is designed to provide a snapshot of our school; we are always happy to welcome visitors to Fairfield and there is no substitute for a visit.

If you would like more information, we recommend the following course of action:

  1. Call the school secretary on 01275 462743 or e-mail to secretary@fairfieldschool.org.uk to request a prospectus;
  2. Call the school secretary to discuss vacancies and arrange a visit.

Admission Procedures

When you have decided that Fairfield is the right school for your child, we will ask you to complete a Registration Form and return it to us with a non-refundable registration fee of £100 per child. This fee covers the registration and assessment procedure. There are occasions when we are unable to offer a place to a child who is registered and awaiting assessment. In these circumstances, the registration fee will be refunded.

Nursery

Children are invited in to school for 2 short visits, firstly with a parent or carer staying with them and secondly on their own.

Reception, Year 1 and Year 2

Children visit us for at least a morning, during which there will be an informal assessment in English, mathematics and reading.

Years 3–6

Children will spend a day with us, during which there will be a classroom-based assessment in English, mathematics and reading. The Headmistress will also have an informal talk with your child. We shall then be able to assess whether we feel that your child will fit comfortably within the academic standards of the class and your child will be able to tell if he or she would be happy to join us. There is no further charge for this day, which also includes lunch.

You will be told the results of the assessment/visit within 24 hours and, if it is successful, we shall write to you with a formal offer of a place, giving details of the school’s Terms and Conditions. If you decide to accept the place, we shall ask you for a completed Acceptance Form, together with an Acceptance Deposit of £250. This deposit will be refunded to you, without interest, when your child leaves Fairfield. The deposit does not apply to new pupils who have siblings already in the school.

You will receive a Parents’ Handbook giving information about day-to-day arrangements in school and a pre-term newsletter with details of clubs and extra-curricular activities for the coming term, together with special events and other general information. A calendar card will follow early in the term; we also issue a weekly newsletter for parents.

Pupils receive their own Pupil Handbook at the start of the academic year.

We look forward to welcoming you for a visit. If you would like any further information, or have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact us at:
